Petra Torkošová
Petra Torkošová has been the conductor of the Mixed Choir Technik STU since 2013. Under her baton, premieres of many Slovak composers have been performed (Zavarský, Tóth, Borzík, Bernáth, Sloboda, Fulmek, Krchová, Gabčo, Valenta, Hochel, and others), some of which bring a new level of sound experimentation and present work with sound in space. She has collaborated on many international projects in Luxembourg, Italy, Hungary, Hamburg, and Israel, where she conducted a series of concerts. The repertoire she has prepared is broad. In addition to a cappella works, in recent years she has also conducted vocal-instrumental works; to mention just a few: J. Rutter – Magnificat, G. Rossini – Petite Messe Solennelle, as well as Requiems by many composers: W. A. Mozart, G. Fauré, M. Duruflé, J. Brahms, in collaboration with various orchestras: Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Mucha Quartet, Hilaris Chamber Orchestra, Slovak Chamber Orchestra Bratislava. With the choir Technik STU, they recorded the CD Ľudové premeny, which includes various arrangements of folk songs for a cappella choir. She is an external member of the Wiener Singakademie choir, with which she had the opportunity to sing at various concerts of Mahler’s Symphonies Nos. 2 and 3, as well as The Dream of Gerontius by E. Elgar in collaboration with conductor Teodor Currentzis. As a choirmaster, she also works at Theatre Aréna on the monodrama Tiso and at the Slovak National Theatre on the drama Life of Galileo. As an educator, she is active in working with students at VŠMU, founded the women’s school choir Solfeggio, with which she represented the school at an international competition and received the absolute winner award. Together with students, she also records the podcast O hudbe trochu inak with prominent personalities of musical life (conductor Valentovič, composer Čekovská, sound engineer Grečnár, singer Lipa, and many others). Under her leadership, international conducting courses are organized every year at VŠMU in collaboration with German conductor Rolf Beck. In addition to Technik choir, she has collaborated on various projects with other choirs: Cantus, Voci Allegre, Lúčnica, Ad Una Corda, the Slovak Teachers’ Choir, as well as the Slovak Philharmonic Choir, where she currently serves as choirmaster.
